This one day conference was held at a Disneyland but I don't think Court had time for any rides. Esquire Deposition Services kept him busy drawing all day, but he shared a martini with Mickey and drew a quick sketch of him— a dream come true for any caricaturist. "Gosh! Are my ears really THAT big?"
My client, Guidewire provides software services for the insurance industry so they’d like all the attendees at this conference to stop by the booth and hear about their new PolicyCenter, now with Standards-based templates. Toward that end I was invited to draw live digital caricatures, which is proving to be a real hit, even in this risk averse culture. The conference is being held at Rosen Shingle Creek, home of the best hotel lap pool in Orlando. Sweet!
Another great performance by EventToons associate artist Jon Casey in Charlotte! Jon is at his best drawing gnarly guys, and there is no gnarlier bunch than the VMUG crowd. Is it my imagination, or is Jon instagramming these photos?
This photo was taken before the show and unfortunately it is all we got. Attendence was a little slow, but Zach did his best to bring some activity to the Scout booth.
Burns & McDonnell consults on many of the biggest power projects in the country, and they invited this artist to draw caricatures for their clients and friends at this huge show at oprange County convention center. As usual, word of mouth about what we were doing grew as the show progressed, until by the end of day 2 we had a healthy crowd of onlookers and willing subjects. All in all a fun show working with great folks!
Here the artists is enjoying the Texas heat and hospitality. Found out why they call it the Riverwalk. Apparantly they frown on swimming in it. Guess I won't be needing my speedo after all. OK it was hot in Texas but let me tell you drawing beautiful Texas gals all day long doesn't cool a cowboy off in the least. Had to go back to my hotel and watch playoff basketball for a couple hours to burn off enough testosterone to be able to sleep. Dreams still haunted by giant Texas hairdos and acres of perfect teeth.
Symantec likes to impact the VMUG conferences with EventToons caricatures and there are a lot of VMUGS all over the US and Canada. With Doug in Dallas, EventToons Associate Artist Jon Casey took the call and wowed them as usual. Jon is especially good at depicting testosterone laden features and there is plenty of that— along with a dappling of feminine beauty here and there—among the cloud engineering crowd.
This is my third year in a row at CS Week and every year the response gets better and better. On the right you can see a typical group of future caricature subjects gathering around the screen. My client, Twentieth First Century Communications enjoyed a big profile at the show, with everyone in attendance aware of us. I had to leave a day early to get to my next show, and on my way out I ran into a number of folks who'd planned on coming by tomorrow. They smiled and said they'd be first in line next year!
I traveled to St. Paul to join this gathering of dentists and their assorted staffs, who happen to be a very congenial bunch, and terrific live digital caricature subjects also. That group of three guys on the left are the incoming and outgoing MDA execs, three amigos with great senses of humor and plenty of authentic midwestern character. Character was the theme for me this trip. One way to gauge the down-to-earthness (DTE) of a group is to track the percentage of people who can answer the question, "What color are your eyes?" with one single word—as opposed to giving a discourse of their many hues depending on mood, weather and clothing. :) This group maxed out the DTE meter at 95%. A new record for this artist, congratulations Minnesota! I stepped away from my tablet and took the photo on the right at the peak of the second day. We had over a dozen fols lined up to bet tooned. I'll have more photos on the EventToons Facebook site later.
This corporate family event was held on the field at the Giant's stadium. EventToons associate artists Zach and Jon were set up in the visitors' dugout where they braved sun, wind and a lot of dust to draw digital caricatures for the crowd. Above are examples of the artists' work—Zach on the left and Jon on the right. With all the sun glare and wind and dust, these were, for the caricaturists, battlefield conditions, but these guys brought their best skills to the event, and the clients left the park happy!
Meridios is my funnest client, so a couple days drawing digital caricatures of health provider IT folks with them in Las Vegas isn't too harsh a duty. The Meridios philosophy is not to let the fact that they have a seriously cost-effective solution get in the way of having fun. It's a company where the suits have not taken over. Yet, anyway. I'm enjoying it while it lasts!
This two day show is the biggest and baddest gathering of risk assessors—insurance people—in the world, so Europ Assistance, the biggest travel protection company you never heard of, needed to make an impression. With a steady stream of caricature subjects, each of whom left the booth wearing their Europ Assistance-branded caricatures clipped onto their show badge lanyards, hopefully we spread the word that when your company or school sends people to faraway places, there is a reliable safeguard system available for them.
EventToons Associate artists delivered some live digital caricature entertainment for this group attending the INSIGHT conference in San Francisco. Note the custom San Francisco theme, just one example of the kind of template We can make for your special event!
EventToons has added a new Associate Artist, Court Jones to our stable of world class talent. Court is famous for his unparalleled studio skills as an illustrator, however he can also crank out quick, top notch live digital caricatures as well. I'm very excited about having an additional talent to offer corporate customers who are looking for professional grade caricaturists who can be relied on to please their customers.
This conference is an annual treat for this artist, mostly because of the wonderful assortment of international attendees. The variety of faces and the positive attitude of tis bunch brings out the best in a caricature artist. EventToons associate artist Zach Trenholm filled in for me one of the sessions—that's him at work in the photo on the left— and his ipad handiwork was much appreciated.
This Silicon Valley conference for database engineers is all about clouds, which is the hottest tech subject these days. But a full day of networking and learning sessions can drain a guy—yes, they are mostly guys— so Symantec brought some live digital caricature to the mix to lighten the atmosphere. The response was great as usual, eliciting a lot of smiling faces. Above are a few of my favorites.
How do you pack for Denver in the spring? T-shirt, sandals and swim suit for sweltering Sunday arrival, parka and snowshoes for walking to the convention center Wednesday morning. It was some crazy weather but we had a crazy good time at the Coraid booth this show. The attendees were Department of Defense contractors, which included plenty of security-minded folks, the kind who stay awake at night worrying about the next national threat so the rest of us can sleep. They really took to the live digital caricatures, in fact the Coraid won the show's "People's Choice" award as you can seen in the third photo above. The Coraid staff really knows how to take advantage of the booth draw aspect of Eventtoons. If you look at the second photo, which is the artist's eye view, you can see the staff member's hands as he explains the advantages of Coraid products and services to a captive—and captivated—lead. In the background you can see some of the crowd who were queued up to get tooned. Bottom line: Coraid's message got out and we had a lot of fun doing it.
Here are some more photos from the show.
Bay music invited this artist to join a crowd of entertainers for an incentive group dinner downtown. There was quite a lineup of entertainment—oragami artists, candy artists, calligraphers, a live lounge act, and of course yours truly, the live digital caricaturist!
EventToons Associate artists Zach Trenholm and Salah Khudari drew caricatures as part of the ACA grand opening at Moscone Hall . They were placed a bit out of the way so the setting was less than grand but these two talented artists delivered the goods to the folks that found them. Kudos to Zach for his first wireless iPad gig (a world first?), another example of why you can count on EventToons to provide innovative state of the art caricature entertainment.
This wasn't an Eventtoons gig, Jon Casey booked it and invited me along for a full day of fun in San Francisco. We drew caricatures together at the Omni hotel from 8-4 then packed up and moved to the Disney Family Museum in the Presidio. By coincidence, we drew the exact same number of caricatures each—90! Jon and I have very different styles both in the way we see faces and draw them, so a lot of guests at the events we work together like to get a "second opinion". A couple of those are pictured above—I'll leave it to you to guess who drew what. All in all this was one of my favorite days drawing caricatures ever. Thanks Jon! —Doug
This white hot online retail software company has me a regular guest at company parties to draw caricatures of every new. employee. They are a smart and most congenial crew to draw for and if they keep growing at this pace I may have a full time job keeping up.
EventToons artists Doug and Jon were invited to draw caricatures under a big tent in Union Square Park where partners and associates of the largest law firm in the world loosened their ties and partied for a few hours. It was an international crowd with lots of glamorous ladies, and I was so busy I only got one photo, which fortunately tells the whole night's story in her smile.
The Austin VMUG conference is the latest in a series of VMUG conferences across Canada and the US that Symantec has brought EventToons caricaturists to. They are all similar in format and feel, however the fact that South by Southwest was also in town made this one a little different. The town was one big bumper to bumper party with live bands everywhere but the restrooms. Rock on Austin!
Here are some photos taken at American Medical Group Association conference. More, along with details in the next blog entry.
This show is a textbook example of what EventToons live digital caricature can do. My client, Meridios, a small new company with big ideas, was attending this conference for the first time. Our booth was in the back row, hidden partially by a giant pillar, where foot traffic was not the best. The weather outside was typical San Diego sunny and balmy, and there were great speakers and workshops, so attendees had plenty of excuses not to spend a lot of time looking for diamonds in the exhibition hall rough. Undeterred, we simply did our thing, me inviting folks to sit five minutes for a caricature, my client offering demos to those who were interested. The caricature subjects wear their "toonups" on a badge sleeve so they spread the word and slowly but surely we had more and more people sidling up to the booth and saying, "I heard about what you're doing here..." And while they were posing, sooner or later they always asked, "So what does Meridios do?" This is what every vendor dreams of, people coming to your booth and asking you what you do! At the end of the show word had spread so far that the incoming and outgoing presidents of the association showed up for caricatures—that's them in the last photo—a great couple of guys. Bottom line is that Meridios made a huge impact at the conference there first year. Next year they wil have something strong to build on. Plus, everybody had FUN!
Rockin' mitzvah is correct. The dance floor was still packed when I left the building— a first for this artist! Congratulations Justin, for throwing a great party and for having such a nice circle of friends and family. And thanks to DJ Holiday of Celebrations Unlimited for the booking!
HP and Symantec took a small busload of RSA attendees on a three hour cruise of San Francisco Bay aboard the Chardonnay with yours truly providing caricature entertainment. This was a fun group from all over the country who got to know each other—and Clio, the corporate avatar—a little better. By the time we docked just about everyone was properly tooned. A fun night for all, including the artist!
This is the second time in three months that SGI has brought EventToons to a California conference so I spent a pretty comfortable day at Sacramento convention center drawing caricatures with friends. The weather was balmy, and walking through the downtown in shirtsleeves in February felt surreal. After the show, SGI threw a mixer at a local restaurant where we ate, drank and "tooned" the last few faces of the day.
EventToons associate artist Jon Casey brought his mad skills to Victoria BC for a two day security conference. The caricatures were a big hit at the Symantec booth as is evidenced by the smiling faces in the photos above.
This is my 6th year or so drawing Alltech VIP customers at the country's biggest agricultural trade show. People come from all over the world, including Bejing China, which is where the group on the right is from. I think I've drawn the girl in the middle every year since 2005! Check out the download page to see/download the caricatures. —Doug
EventToons associate artist Salah Khudari went down to Monterey for a couple of days of drawing caricatures at the PARMA conference. As usual, the King of cute-i-cature demonstrated his exceptional knack for uncovering the true beauty in everyone.
This is a big week for EventToons, with artists in 5 cities, including the Atlanta, home of the Georgia Aquarium. Zach Trenholm and "Al-Rod" Rodriguez did the honors, entertaining the evening guests with their own unique flavors of caricature. The two photos onthe right are Zach at work—note the deadly accuracy Zach is famous for. No photos available of Al-Rod at work alas, so that's two of his digital drawings on the left. All subjects can download theirs on the downloads page. —Doug
This conference was held at the Georgia Aquarium where, after a day of business, guests partied in the ballroom with drinks, great food and of course yours truly, America's busiest live digital caricaturist. —Doug
This was the biggest of VMUG conferences, with crowds of caricature subjects at the Symantec table all day. One of the highlights of my day was the Elvis portrayal—uncanny resemblence don't you think? As usual it was a pleasure working with the Symantec crew, and as I often say, pretty women are well, pretty, but there is nothing more fun to draw than an male geek engineer. —Doug
OK let's say you are one year old and they throw you a brthday party at the Ritz with a magician, balloon artist, puppet show, live digital caricature and a cake twice as tall as you are———my question is, next year, how you going to top that? Well, it's a nice problem to have Zoe and I wish you all the luck in the world. Not that you'll need any luck, you've got a fantastic family and circle of friends. Much better. I brought Sala along for this party and the last photo is him drawing one of the younger guests. —Doug
EventToons brought 3 artists to this holiday party at Illumina in Hayward, and they kept us busy every minute. A real fun bunch of hard working people, they had never seen live digital caricature before but they warmed to it instantly. The crowd enjoyed some really wild work from Jon, who has been known to hallucinate while drawing, as well as the more flattering fare of Salah and myself. I love holiday parties in January, let’s call it a trend. Thanks Veronica! —Doug
CVI Melles Groit invited me back to Moscone again to draw live digital caricatures of attendees of this massive trade show, which is all about photons I guess. after tywo years of this show I still don’t know. But no matter, we got plenty of attention at the CVI booth and lots of smiles from the subjects as well as the onlookers. If you had your caricature drawn you can download it here or on Facebook, where there are more photos and you can if you choose, give us a like!. —Doug
EventToons associate artist Jon Casy went to Vegas to draw caricatures for a group of Haulotte customers at Smith & Wollensky, the famous steak house. Haulotte is one of my clients who like a template created that integrates their product. When the product is something like this it works great! —Doug
I was invited to join Jon Casey at the Sainte Claire Hotel in San Jose for a few hours Sunday night. This international crowd was especially fun to draw, with folks from as far flung as Australia and Germany sitting down for their first live digital caricature. The group was small enough that some folks were able to get “second opinions”, you can see one example above. Another proof that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. —Doug
This gala mitzvah was held at the Penninsula Country Club, where an energetic crowd, dressed to the nines for a Hollywood theme, celebrated Sarah. As it happened, I never got to draw the star of the show but there were plenty of supporting actors and actresses willing to sit in the spotlight for a few minutes getting their caricatures drawn. Here are the last two of the evening.—Doug
The Arc is a San Francisco nonprofit agency that works with developmentally disabled adults, and like their for profit counterparts they like to break out and party once in a while. The staff took over The Barrelhouse, a SOMA exposed brick hole-in-the wall with a funky cheerful vibe, and invited EventToons to do our stuff. Also invited were the two man crew of Devil’s Tail Productions, who shot a bunch of video that we hope to turn into the first EventTooons video. The crowd had a great time with a selection of three digital caricaturists, each with a different style. That’s Doug, Jon, and Salah’s work above. Thanks to The Ark staff for all your good work, and for showing us a good time! —Doug
Symantec has been sending EventToons artists on a tour of Canada with Ottawa the latest stop. It would be tempting for this Californian to complain about the cold except everyone assured me that this was a mild winter and that, “Today was rather balmy”. The local VMware group more than doubled last year’s attendance, an impressive feat in this economy and a real indicator of the future of cloud computing. The artist had a particularly good group of talent to draw upon as is evidenced by the photos above. It would be difficult to pick a “best of show” caricature but above you will see a few candidates. —Doug
My first time working at this venue in the Presidio, and the group was a San Francisco venture capital firm throwing a holiday party for their families. Venture capitalizing is a game with high stakes and tough characters, but this was a pretty laid back evening with a nice mix of generations, really cute kids, as well as lots of intelligent questions about the digital approach to caricature. —Doug
This Woodside party is an annual rite for me, I’ve been drawing caricatures of the same cast of characters for five years now I think. This year I brought along Jon Casey to help out and give the kids a different perspective on themselves. They like crazy themes and in the past I’ve received requests for some pretty bizarre things, but this year a lot of them said “Surprise me”, so I had some great fun drawing whatever came to mind. Toward the end of the night I started just drawing subjects as they are, which is really my favorite approach. Nothing boring about youth and beauty, it’s the best theme every time. Happy Holidays, see you next year! —Doug
EventToons Associate Artist Salah Khudari brought live digital caricature to Denver to draw caricatures couples at a holiday party for Croc. No need for Tebow heroics here, Salah started strong and ended strong. Thanks to Salah’s sweet line and friendly eye, everyone came out looking great! —Doug
City View at the Metreon is a really cool venue with surprising views and a stylish modern decor. EventToons was invited to draw live digital caricatures for this Dolby holiday event by 2 the 9′s, a terrific planner. I brought along Jon Casey, my number one EventToons associate artist to help handle the crowd, and before the event started I finally got around to drawing him. Jon got off easy I think, next time I will beast him proper. All in all a memorable evening for artists and attendees alike. —Doug
This caricature artist doesn’t do as many weddings anymore—I’ve been trying to reclaim weekends for my own celebrations—but when I do fire up the cintiq on a Saturday night, it is best to have a wedding party like this one. Many thanks to friends and family of Craig and Liza for a memorable night, I wish you all the best! —Doug
This holiday party for a company that shall remain anonymous here on the web was held at the Four Seasons in Palo Alto. I was joined by associate artist Salah Khudari (sample above right), who charmed the guests at one end of the party while I worked the other. The group was expecting a photo booth so they were completely surprised by a couple of live digital caricature artists, but they caught on quick. Lots of happy faces here, reflecting a bright spot in this economy and high hopes for an expansive 2012. —Doug
This company, who shall remain nameless here online, has employed EventToons to bring some artful levity to their annual holiday party for three years now, each year adding an additional artist. So unlike most groups, these folks know what live digital caricature is and they waste no time queuing up to pose. With ET associates Jon Clary and Salah Khudari along, we made quite a den in the crowd, though I am certain there will be plenty of left over demand for a repeat performance next year. In fact for more than one of the people this artist drew, getting a new annual caricature update for Facebook is a tradition. —Doug
Symantec has been using EventToons to help impact VMForum conferences all over Canada and the latest stop, Vancouver is one of my favorite cities. The politeness and professionalism of everyone a traveler meets is impressive, and this particular demographic—smart, geeky guys with their heads in the cloud so to speak—are great fun to work with. Most of them had no experience with digital caricature but it didn’t take long for them to get their heads around the idea. —Doug
EventToons associate artist Salah Khudari drew live digital caricatures for this family event at ATT park. —Doug
This is the biggest EventToons party of the year, three years running now, with five live digital caricature artists convening at the new California Academy of Science in Golden Gate Park. Thanks to EventToons Associate Artist Salah Khudari (Two middle photos above are his), and guest artists Zach Trenholm, Rhoda Draws and Marcus Sakoda for making this year another success.
Here we are at this artist’s favorite destination. This trade show is for school board members, many of whom you can see lined up for digital caricatures by yours truly. Lots of sunny smiles inside the convention center, however outside the sky was gray, very untypical. San Diego, you owe me one! —Doug
EventToons associate artist Jon Casey went to Ottawa to draw some of the heroes who keep the lid on internet bad guys. He loves Ottawa so much he's begging me to send him back. Sorry Jon, next visit I'm going myself to see what the draw is. In the photos above are a couple of secure and satisfied net police. —Doug
EventToons associate artist Jon Casey flew to Montreal for this tech conference in beautiful Montreal. Jon drew some great faces and some traffic for Symantec, a major player in the cutting edge virtual computing industry. —Doug
Autodesk makes a wide variety of great software for designers and the like, including the quintessential Sketchbook Pro, which is now an iPad app. So I thought it appropriate that I take my maiden voyage using the program on an iPad here among the Autodesk faithful. To back me up I brought along Zach Trenholm, who has been using the iPad at gigs longer than anybody. Drawing with one’s finger is a little strange at first but after 10,000 hours of concentrated work I hear you can master anything. —Doug
It’s a long haul to Nova Scotia—the ride from the airport at 4am on icy, partially plowed roads was how it ended— but the friendly cheerful folks and the fresh salmon for breakfast made it all worthwhile. —Doug
Stylish and congenial folks convened at the San Francisco Four Seasons to celebrate this delightful couple’s wedding. It may seem incoungrous to have state of the art digital entertainment—caricatures no less— at a traditional Indian wedding but somehow with the scampering children, the colorful saris and lavish decor, as well as the pounding rain outside on the deck, everything seemed as cozy and natural as can be. —Doug
My client is a big player in the whack a mole game of stopping Medicare fraud, which was the purpose of this conference. Like many other shows I do, we started out slowly, as most people have never seen live digital caricature before, and built momentum so that at close of day on Wednesday we were inundated with willing subjects. They were all told they could “come back next year”. —Doug
This conference is pretty techie, suffice it to say that the V in VMUG stands for virtual. This artist had a steady stream of willing caricature subjects stopping by the Symantec booth all day. As much fun as that was I really enjoyed my breaks too, taking walks around the downtown. Portland is such beautiful city even on a cloudy day.
Scout Investments is on the short list of my fave exhibitors, so this San Francisco trade show for financial planners was familiar and fun territory. The handsome gentleman on the far right is Jim Moffett, star fund manager at Scout and a legend in the industry. The question is, why would someone smart enough to beat the benchmark year after year consent to let me draw him show after show? Life is full of mysteries. —Doug
The artist was invited to draw live digital caricatures for an evening letting off steam party for conference attendees, who, as you can see by these smilers, managed to let some off and look good doing it. —Doug
Virtual users from the Southeast convened at The Georgia Congress Center for a day of technical training and camaraderie. This bunch has their heads in the cloud, literally, since their jobs involve around the trend to virtual computing, where applications and data are centralized and duplicated and so forth on giant remote servers in the sky. Looking at the caricatures I drew you might think these folks are perfectly normal but trust me, they are not. It was like being in a foreign country where the only way to communicate is to nod and smile. OK, I’m exaggerating a bit, but seriously, V-Muggers are not only smarter than they look, they are smarter than you and me! —Doug
Sierra Central bank invited this artist to draw caricatures at the Argonaut Hotel in San Francisco. A great bunch of folks who seemed in good spirits, though they turned down my auto loan. I thought my Grecian coin collection would be great collateral but alas, no Mercedes for me this year. —Doug
This San Diego conference was devoted to intellectual properties and patents, a hot topic for discussion nowadays and there were plenty of smart people attending. My client TP&L, who do patent strategies for the knowledge economy were a delight to work with and we kept a steady stream of traffic at the booth all afternoon. Most of the conference attendees had not seen live digital caricature before and one offered to help me patent the process. A joke of course, but wouldn’t it be nice to invent the equivalent of “one-click” caricature”? Got to get to work on that. —Doug
Moscone Hall was packed to the gills with emergency room doctors and Valley Emergency brought EventToons along to add some fun to their booth. This template with old Victorians, a trolley car, Coit tower and the Golden Gate bridge in the background is available for clients who want to add a San Francisco theme to the caricatures. —Doug
EventToons associate artist Salah Khudari brought some traffic and some smiles to the Veri-Core booth. As you can see by these sample photos, Salah worked his digital magic to great effect. That queue in front of the Veri-Core booth is an awesome site to see. Are you sure those folks weren't lined up to buy iPhones?—Doug
HR Tech is a convention geared to human resource managers who use technology. In other words, ALL human resource managers. SHL Previsor invited EventToons to draw live digital caricature for attendees, and ET associate artist Jon Casey did a great job. Jon doubled down on his subjects, as you can see from these samples above. Hopefully he had as much luck at the blackjack table. For some reason he’s not talking.
3M invited this artist Salt Lake City to bring some additional levity to their booth, and I say additional because these folks are a cheerful and polished crew. This being the biggest show of its kind for this division, 3M reps from all over the country were present—a kind of annual reunion for many. Live digital caricature always draws a crowd but this convention being geared toward “coders” and hospital administrators, it was heavily female and thus the artist was swamped from start to finish. No complaints though, the smiles I got were just reward. Point of interest, I was eating breakfast Monday morning when I spotted the gentleman in the top left picture wearing his caricature from Sunday. With the badge and lanyard giveaway 3M gets walking billboards all over the show. —Doug
SCOUT Investments is one of my favorite clients and San Diego is a favorite destination so I was prepared for a great time here at FPA, a convention for Financial planning professionals. And I am having a great time, with lots of great interesting faces to draw (as you can see by the queue in the photo above ), among them the gentleman holding not only the image I just drew of him, but the one I drew two years ago at another show which he keeps on his cell phone. Just one more example of how live digital caricature can resonate with people. —Doug
EventToons asssociate artist Jon Casey drew caricatures for an open house at the TRUSTe HQ in San Francisco.
Bernard Hodes brought EventToons to ASHHRA, a human resources trade show, for the second year in a row, this time upping the ante with two artists, my self and Jon Casey. It was really fun working with another artist, hearing people comment on the different digital caricature styles styles. A few of the subjects got “second opinions” and you’ll see a few of those in the photos above. One thing for sure, human resource people are the best to draw— a fun bunch for sure! —Doug
This artist flew in to Phoenix for a day of drawing digital caricatures at VMUG, a Virtualization Conference for Symantec. The attendees were the IT guys, mostly guys, who work behind the scenes for various Phoenix companies who need to have their data in one of those clouds we keep hearing about, the kind that won’t rain on you or zap you with lightning. —Doug
This corporate leadership conference held at the San Diego Hilton was the site of a really cool party with lots of great entertainment including exotic dancing girls, drum crews, photo booths, a candy artist and yours truly drawing live digital caricatures. Drawing at a four and a half minute pace, the artist managed to capture a healthy slice of the crowd. —Doug
EventToons associate artist Salah Khudari drew live digital caricatures for Giant Race participants at ATT Park on Saturday.
Associate EventToons artist Jon Casey drew caricatures for this corporate party at the Hahn Auditorium at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View. —Doug
The conference was held at the Austin Hilton just a block away from the infamous 6th street stretch of dive bars and music venues. My client, Accenture got a steady stream of attendees hanging out at the booth, queing up for digital caricatures and to hear the latest about the company’s world class services. These cartoons were done in about 4 and 1/2 minutes each. Subjects got a plastic sleeve and clip so quite a few folks wore their caricatures around the hotel. —Doug
EventToons associate artist Salah Khudari went to St. Louis to draw caricatures at ASAF for Boxwood Online Career Centers. He was a big hit as you can see by the smiles in the photos. —Doug
Google threw an afternoon event at one of their campuses and EventToons was asked to provide a slew of live digital caricature artists as part of the entertainment. With the Bay area’s top tooning talent, along with Court Jones, who flew up from San Diego for the event, we did a pretty good job of disappearing the queue that seemed to stretch as far as the eye could see.
TIVO has invited this artist in the past to draw at their annual carnival but now that EventToons is all digital, it was a different sort of scene. Associate artists Jon Casey and Salah Khudari joined me under a big tent provided by Plan-it Interactive where we drew nonstop live digital caricatures for 4 hours. We didn’t have time to stop for many photos, but I managed to snap these.
Thomson Reuters invited this artist back for the second time to draw caricatures for this fun bunch of ladies (mostly) who’ve invaded Bally’s with their annual convention. Note the typical lineup at the booth in the last photo. I arrived a few minutes late due to a time mixup on Saturday and there were eight willing subjects waiting. —Doug
Thomson Reuters invited this artist to Philadelphia to draw live diigital caricatures of attendees of the AALL, an association of legal librarians. Thanks to Vicenç Feliú of the University of the District of Columbia for the photos with me in them! This medium sized convention had plenty of willing subjects lining up by the booth—even at 6 minutes per subject we had a queue of a dozen or more nearly the whole time! —Doug
This NAHCR conference, devoted to health care job recruiters, is small, so having ten or so attendees constantly gathered at the Bernard Hodes booth really had an impact on the show at large. This artist’s first time in Raleigh, and the downtown revitalization looks great. All in all a very pleasant time! —Doug
This financial institution invited its best regional managers to enjoy San Francisco’s finest views, food and entertainment. EventToons associate artist Jon Casey (that’s him on the left) joined me atop the Westin St. Francis where we drew a slew of happy campers—er, bankers! Caricatures are such a great way for a company to recognize individuals, it doesn’t get any more personal than this! —Doug
SHL-Previsor brought me along to draw traffic at their booth at SHRM, a big trade show for human resource managers. Traffic was heavy partially due to the good attendence and also due to the fact that HR folks are generally a pretty fun bunch. We got quite a few comments on the live digital caricature, along the lines of “this is the best giveaway at the show.” There is really no better way to reach people on a personal level. Subjects can download Jpegs at Facebook or Flickr. Thanks to photographer Steven Purcell for the great angled photo!
While I was drawing in Philadelphia, EventToons associate artist Slah Khudari was making his trade show debut drawing live digital caricatures for Televox at CBA in Orlando. Salah’s first professional gig was an EventToons party only six months ago for Google! Nothing like starting at the top! —Doug
This trade show is devoted to the gatekeepers of knowledge, those amazing wizards who conjure up the answers to life’s persistant questions, otherwise known as librarians.
